Inverse Cipher in Girls' Frontline 2
Season 15 puzzle stages, borrowed marionettes, turn limits, and why this is not a story map.
Inverse Cipher is the rotating puzzle mode in Girls’ Frontline 2: Exilium. Japanese and Chinese clients also label it Paradoxical Cycle (逆理循環). It is not a story chapter, not Gunsmoke, and not the Chiral Redundancy campaign map. Each season opens a short, time-limited set of five stages. You clear them inside a published turn count using borrowed units, marionettes, and preset skills. Your leveled roster is usually locked out or irrelevant. The reward is event currency: Collapse Pieces, cultivation items, and the season’s shop tickets. Miss the window and the puzzles rotate out.
Season 15 is the early-September 2026 run. Official timers put it at 2 September 2026, 05:00 through 16 September 2026, 04:59 (GMT+0; KonNetwork lists the same window as 5:00 AM–4:59 AM UTC-4). That sits inside Chiral Redundancy Part 1, which is why Commanders confuse it with event story. It is a separate node on the home screen. Parent hub: Guides. Broader patch news sits on Updates.
If you are still clearing SL-1-2, finish getting started first. Inverse Cipher does not teach campaign rules. It assumes you already know how a turn, a skill, and a tile work.
What the mode is testing
Each stage is a constraint puzzle:
- A turn limit (often one to three turns for the reward tier you actually want).
- A fixed deployment. You get marionettes, borrowed Dolls, or a tiny preset with named skills. You do not bring Qiongjiu.
- A win condition that is usually “eliminate the listed targets,” sometimes with extra rules (do not wake a pack, break a specific gun first, stand on a tile).
- No random miss chance, same as the rest of Exilium. If the shot is legal, it hits. Failed clears are route errors, not unlucky rolls.
Stage codes look like BP-1-3, LP-1-5, or PP-1-5 depending on the season’s prefix. The last number is the day/stage index. Season 15 still uses five maps; the prefix on your client is the one that matters. Community videos title them “Stage 1” through “Stage 5” even when the in-game ID is LP-1-5. Do not wait for all five to unlock if your client drips one a day — later seasons have sometimes opened the full set at once, but the timer still ends on 16 September.
Cover, Stability Index, flanking, and (since 27 August 2026) Tile Transformation still apply when the preset units can paint tiles. Read combat and tiles if a marionette “does no damage” into a shielded gun. You are probably shooting a Stability face from the front, same as story.
How to play a stage without rage-resetting
- Read the turn cap and the unit list before you move. The UI shows remaining turns and each marionette’s skills. One wasted dash is a failed 1-turn clear.
- Identify the key skill. Inverse Cipher almost always hinges on one named active: an assassination matrix, an elimination program, a debuff that inverts a heal, a forced move. Use that skill on the intended target, not on the nearest HP bar.
- Let enemy turns work for you. Many “2-turn” maps expect packs to walk onto a tile or into a follow-up. If you kill the wrong unit early, the scripted path breaks.
- Do not autobattle. Autonomy is for Supply nodes on farming and resources. These maps are hand-solved.
- Take the reward tier you can hit. A 2-turn clear that pays Collapse Pieces is better than a 40-minute hunt for a 1-turn screenshot.
Borrowed units are not your account. Their Keys, Vertebrae, and attachments are baked in. You cannot swap Sibyl onto a marionette. That is the point of the mode: it is a tactics exam, not a gear check.
Season 15 schedule and rewards
Play Inverse Cipher during the two-week window, not on 15 September at 23:00. Stages are short. The failure mode is forgetting the node exists while you farm Path of the Exile. Put it on the daily checklist next to Patrol and mailbox.
Rewards are not Targeted Access Permissions on a rate-up. Official copy for this event family is Collapse Pieces plus cultivation items (Reports, blueprints, bars, or the season’s ticket). Spend Pieces according to your banner plan; they convert at 150 per pull. Inverse Cipher will not finish a 160-pity. It will pad a week of stamina.
This mode does not drop Nemesis’ Original Frame, Specification Index, or Frontier Conquest faction points. Those are other Chiral Redundancy tracks. Do not skip Gnostic Insight because you “did the puzzles.”
How it is not story, Gunsmoke, or Frontier Conquest
| Mode | What you deploy | Why you open it |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign / Chiral Redundancy story | Your Dolls | Plot, Commander EXP, event shop tickets |
| Inverse Cipher | Marionettes / borrowed presets | Timed puzzle, Pieces, cultivation items |
| Gunsmoke Frontline | Your echelons, Platoon score | Weekly guild PvE ranking |
| Frontier Conquest | Platoon faction campaign plus Armed Echelons | Seasonal map, Heavy Ordnance Corps |
If a guide tells you to “bring Klukai to LP-1-5,” it is the wrong mode or an old screenshot. Inverse Cipher will not care that you own OTs-14.
A practical Season 15 loop
- Day the season opens: clear every unlocked stage once. Claim the first-clear box.
- Each later unlock: one attempt with a written route (or a trusted video). If you fail the turn cap, reset immediately; grinding a broken line wastes more time than a clean second try.
- After the five are done: stop. There is no Infinite Cipher. Leftover stamina goes to event Supply and conductors.
- Before 16 September 04:59: open the event one last time and confirm unclaimed chests. Inverse Cipher rewards expire with the season, not with your mailbox.
Commanders who treat Inverse Cipher as optional still lose Collapse Pieces. Commanders who treat it as a raid still burn an evening. Five short puzzles, borrowed marionettes, a turn cap, then back to the version shop. That is the whole mode. When Season 16 replaces these maps, the rules stay; only the prefix and the gimmick skills change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers commanders actually search for.
When does Inverse Cipher Season 15 end?
16 September 2026 at 04:59 GMT+0 (04:59 AM UTC-4 on the common listing). It opened 2 September 2026. It is a separate timer from Chiral Redundancy story.
Can I use my own Dolls?
Usually no. Inverse Cipher hands you marionettes, borrowed units, and preset skills. It is a puzzle, not a roster check. Combat rules still match combat and tiles.
Is Inverse Cipher the same as the story event?
No. Story and Path of the Exile are the Chiral Redundancy campaign. Inverse Cipher is the five-stage turn-limit puzzle. Patch context is on Chiral Redundancy.
What does it pay?
Collapse Pieces and cultivation items for clears inside the turn cap. It is not a gacha banner and not a substitute for event-shop Permissions. Farm those on farming and resources.
Do I need to clear it every day?
Clear each stage when it unlocks, then stop. Put the reminder on the daily checklist so you do not discover the node on the last evening of the season.
